2025 - West - UT - Escalante - Devil's Garden - April 7

4/7 - Today was a washboard ride down Hole in the Rock Road to Devil's Garden. I know - we have done some of these hikes in the past but Jim & Jill have not. We wanted to share some of the beauty with them.

Jazzy, Jim & Jill -

and Vaughan in orange.

Jill has really been working out this trip -

A this point Jim & Jill headed back to the RV resort while we decided to check out the road to tomorrow's destination - The Cosmic Ashtray. We had been told at the visitor station that the "undeveloped" road was closed. Vaughan knew that we would not want to hike over 9 miles to see it and if we could we drive out this road the hike would be less than 3 miles.

The road was passable and the views incredible.

As a bonus we crossed Harris Wash where I got to do a little rock-hounding.

Dinner was a fabulous burger at 4th West Pub - a beef burger with a slice of pastrami, fried onions, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing. Amazing!

2025 - West - UT - Drive to Escalante - April 6

4/6 - Left Kanab this morning for Escalante. I always love this drive.  It first takes you through Red Canyon, then Bryce, and into Escalante.

When we finally reached the RV resort we were greeted by a herd of deer. I was able to get a picture of a few of them before they disappeared down the hill.

2025 - West - UT - Kanab - Squaw Trail Hike - April 5

4/5 - Our last full day in Kanab. Vaughan, Jim and Jill hiked Squaw Trail (this trail has been recently renamed to Kanab City Trail).

Of course he has to find a ledge to stand on.

Looks like a giant chicken head -

I wish he could have brought me back this rock for my garden.

The beginning of a new arch -

2025 - West - UT - Kanab - Iron Horse, Hidden Lake & Belly of the Dragon - April 3 to April 4

4/3 - A day of rest - finally!  Went to town for dinner at Iron Horse. Good brisket and pulled pork.

While there Jill cleaned up at the poker table.

But they made us share a chair (love the boats on the chair).

4/4 - Went back to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary to find Hidden Lake. We were able to drive through some pretty amazing off-beat areas with lots of critters.

A coyote

a deer -

a pregnant cow -

and a no longer pregnant cow.

Moving on to Hidden Lake -

It doesn't look like much until you get closer.

Once you get inside the cave is a small "lake". It's so dark you can't see it without a flashlight.

Nothing but water.

Afterwards, we wanted Jim & Jill to experience Belly of the Dragon, so back we went.

Lots of cool cairns at the end of the wash.

Jill wanted to build her own.

Then back out the Belly we went.
