3/25 - Drove from Las Vegas to St George/Washington UT
I always love this drive through the Virgin River Gorge.
We settled in to a beautiful RV resort in Washington UT - Settlers Point Luxury RV - and prepared for the next day. Hiking to Angels Landing is always nerve-racking.
3/26 - Zion Angels Landing is not for the faint of heart or someone who has a fear of heights and bad knees. I agreed to get as far as Walters Wiggles and Scouts Landing but left Angels for the others. Besides, it was spring break across the country and people looked more like ants.
Here is a view from below. Vaughan hiked this once before but wanted Jim & Jill to be able to say they hiked the most deadly hike in America. This was named Angels Landing in 1916 by a Methodist Minister who claimed "only an angel could land up there".
Jim & Jill after hiking up the first set of switchbacks.
Proof I was on this trip (as everyone's personal photographer) -
Last set of switchbacks - Walters Wiggles - 21 switchbacks in order to gain 250 feet.
I stayed below temporarily to get a picture of my crew.
Here is the Ranger check-in point - you now must have a permit to climb.
And so the climb begins - Vaughan in orange and Jill in blue so they are easy to spot.
Definitely not easy but at least there are chains to help climb.
Looking down from the top -
Vaughan always has to be on the edge - makes me crazy!
Apparently he can sleep anywhere -
And he makes friends wherever he goes -
The conquering heroes!
My zoomed in view sitting on Scouts Landing of the ants on the upper ridge.
My beautiful view from Scouts Landing
Hiking back down.
Hiking down is really tough on the knees!
My greater - back at the shuttle stop -
