2018 - Thailand - Oct 9 - Chiang Mai

Today we met friends of Sharon's, Richard and Irenea.  They graciously rented a car and drove us to Bua Thong Waterfalls about 1 hour north of Chiang Mai.  It's a beautiful, multi-tiered waterfall made of limestone and mineral deposits. It has been nicknamed ‘the sticky waterfall’ because the limestone creates enough friction to stop slipping, so making it very easy to climb up the waterfall (with the help of ropes).

Vaughan, Sharon, and Richard decided to climb the falls while the rest of us hiked down and back via the stairs.

On our way back we stopped at a farm to table restaurant - Ohkajhu.  The food was incredible.

After returning to town we stopped for a beer where Richard and Irenea used to live (we had to visit his favorite cats).

Then it was on to his favorite dessert - they mix all these fruits and sweets into a bowl and then add coconut milk (only about 4000 calories per bowl).

Sharon opted for sticky rice with mango.

We both steered clear of the durian fruit - it's smell has been compared to onions, sewage, cooked cabbage, and dirty gym socks.

I also did not go near the squid - but did eat my share of fried giant prawns.
