2022 - West - May 8 - Silver City & Gila Cliff Dwellings

We moved to Silver City, NM this morning to a KOA that makes fresh cookies for everyone each day.  Now that's my kind of place.  Seeing we only have 4 nights here we decided to not waste time and drive up to see the Gila Cliff Dwellings. The drive was about 40 miles and 2 hours of switchbacks up and down the side of mountains. There were some incredible views but it was hard to sightsee without driving off the side of a cliff.

The cliff dwellings were amazing but it meant we had to hike up the side of a cliff to see them.  I am not good with heights and here I am on the side of a cliff climbing ladders to see how the Mogollon people  lived 700 years ago. My fascination with history outweighed my fears.

We finally made it to the dwelling. Most places like this they have roped off. This one you could climb up inside and see how the people lived. It was a simple but hard life.

At least they had a killer view

And now for a few nature shots -

Between San Lorenzo and Silver City is a Copper & Gold Mind. HUGE!!

The tires above are actually the size of the one I'm standing behind.
