2015-03-18 Snow Canyon State Park

After spending 2 days with a real estate agent looking at beautiful homes (and making no decisions), we spent the day at Snow Canyon State Park.

This area is a combination of lava flows, red cliffs, white sandstone cliffs, sand dunes, and desert.

Painted effect caused by greenery growing in the lava flow.

Below is Cinder Cone - an extinct volcano that you can hike to the top of.  I hiked around the base while Vaughan, of course, had to climb to the top.

Here is the crater at the top of Cinder Cone.

and a close up of a large hunk of lava.

White sandstone cliffs.

Red cliffs, white cliffs, lava, ...

Red cliffs and petrified dunes.

Hiking the petrified dunes

Small arch

and a mini-arch in the making

Hoping to head to Valley of Fire National Park tomorrow (Nevada).
Stay Tuned.

  1. I sure did enjoy the pictures in your post...until a few years ago, I would not have thought rocks to be such a thing of beauty! That has sure changed since we arrived to this part of our country!
