2023 - West - Glacier NP MT - Hungry Horse Dam - August 19

 August 19 - Hungry Horse Dam is only 15 miles from West Glacier where we are staying. It was completed in 1953 on the end of the Flathead River. The fires are over the ridge from the dam and around the south side at Doris Point. They have been trying to contain them but are not being very successful. The skies are becoming filled with smoke again. The road around the reservoir has been closed and planes & choppers continue to drop water from above.

What looks like clouds are actually tons of smoke in the air.

Very near the reservoir was Lion Lake. What is one more hike - only about a mile around.
